What does RPE mean in lifting?
RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) rates set difficulty from 6 to 10. RPE 10 means no reps left in the tank; RPE 8 means you could have done about two more. It is a simple way to auto-regulate training loads.
How do I estimate my 1RM from RPE?
Combine the reps you did with the reps you had left (RIR = 10 − RPE) to get your effective max-rep effort, then read the percentage of 1RM for that effort. This calculator does it automatically.
What is a one-rep max (1RM)?
Your one-rep max is the heaviest weight you can lift for a single repetition with good form. It is the standard measure of maximal strength and the reference point for setting training percentages.
Is it safe to test my true one-rep max?
Maximal singles carry more injury risk and need a thorough warm-up and ideally a spotter. For most lifters, estimating your 1RM with a calculator is safer and accurate enough for programming.
